CONCEAL + REVEAL
Conceal and Reveal experiments with the idea of concealing and revealing form externally and internally. This project explores using a wire sculpture model as the mold for vacuum forming with 2mm white ABS plastic. Through altering and abusing the material and experimenting with the process of vacuum forming, interesting results were created.
In these four images, a variety of methods involving drilling and scoring as well as lasercutting and etching on the surface of the plastic prior to forming created unusual surfaces and textures. The images have an almost diaphanous quality to them, with layers of varying depth to create a skin. The theme explored in this series of images relates to the human body, and all four images resemble x-rays or microscopic images of the interior of the human body, such as the bone, skin pores, lungs and veins. By experimenting with techniques and methods, unexpectedly beautiful results were achieved.
