New to Knitting
I've just finished my first knitting project! After taking the weaving course, I decided to pick up another hobby, because why not?! I popped into Holland Road Yarn Company and the lady there was very kind and help me get started with a knitting project - a classic beanie hat! I've used a beautiful soft mustard wool by Brooklyn Tweed and it was actually very nice to knit with! Not bad effort, I'm looking forward to trying some more complex projects - I'm thinking a beautiful

Experimenting with Textiles
I've just done a weaving workshop with Niche Textile Studios, run by Christine Brimer, and it was fantastic! I learnt all about how a table loom works, and we spent some time weaving up a cushion cover. It's a pretty relaxing process once you get the hang of it and it's quite satisfying to be able to create patterns. It's quite amazing how something relatively simple like a table loom can quickly create intricate and delicate patterns into a piece of fabric. The more I unders

Sunday Baking
There's nothing I love more than a little baking in the weekends. This week was our first week ordering our groceries from Food Box, and we were pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the produce. The standout for me was the meat actually, it was very fresh and the use by date was about a week away, far longer than anything you get at the supermarket! We put a couple up in the lounge... ...and one in the hallway. I also sourced some dried flowers from Yvette Edwards as well as a couple of plants from Palmers and Lush Lane. I love playing around and rearranging the things around our hou

Cakeday
It's been a while since I last posted but that's because I've been too bothered by the hot weather to do much productive tasks. I did cater a BBQ last month for about 35 people and make a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing, chocolate moose cups, and most importantly some goddam macarons that I forgot to take photos of. It would have been some of my finest work I tell you, they were raspberry buttercream filled macarons arranged in ombré pink. I'm disappointed I didn't re

Starting an Art Collection: Ceramics
So I've been starting to look for pieces to begin my own art collection, a couple of my favourite places to visit in Wellington are VESSEL and Eyeball Kicks, they stock the most wonderful collection of ceramics and art prints by both local and international artists. My very first art purchase was a Ghostie print for Maurizio as a birthday present - except it still sits in the protective wrapping as we haven't gotten around to having it framed yet! One day...
